At Grab, we\u2019re always striving to serve our communities better by creating a more inclusive and accessible platform for all. In Malaysia, we\u2019re proud to serve and empower our\u00a0deaf driver-partners\u00a0who use the platform as a source of flexible economic income and financial independence. However, there is so much more we can do to support and enhance our driver-partner\u2019s experience.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Meeting with the Malaysia Federation of the Deaf (MFD)<\/span><\/p>\n

Our team has worked closely with our deaf driver-partners to better understand the challenges they go through and how we could help \u00a0improve their experiences. We\u2019ve also partnered with our friends at Malaysia Federation of the Deaf (MFD) to identify ways we can enhance our platform and provide more opportunities for our deaf driver-partners.<\/p>\n

Based on the feedback and insights gathered, we\u2019re excited to share\u00a0changes that we\u2019ve made and initiatives we\u2019ve implemented that will help facilitate non-verbal communication between us \u2014Grab, deaf driver-partners and passengers alike\u2014to connect and #BreakTheSilence!<\/p>\n

Passenger Education and Communication<\/span><\/h3>\n

Facilitating a smoother driving experience has always been our biggest aim for this campaign. With this in mind, we\u2019ve created and distributed in-car materials such as Car Hangers<\/span>\u00a0and Flip Cards<\/span>\u00a0to help our passengers communicate with our deaf driver-partners and learn some basic sign language along the way!<\/p>\n

To promote positive change and raise passengers\u2019 awareness when riding with our deaf-drivers, we will be be rolling out a social media campaign<\/span>\u00a0during the International Week of the Deaf\u00a0<\/span>(24 – 30 Sept 2018).<\/p>\n

Driver Engagement<\/span><\/h3>\n

Feedback and suggestions from our deaf driver-partners matter as we continuously strive to improve our platform. Hence, we are also excited to take another step by including a sign language interpreter\u00a0in ALL of our driver engagement events. This is to ensure that our events are truly inclusive and that we are able to engage with our deaf driver-partners better.<\/p>\n

Training and Onboarding<\/span><\/h3>\n

We train our deaf driver-partners to navigate in various situations, even unique ones. Here are some of the changes we\u2019re doing to enhance their training and onboarding process:<\/p>\n
