Grab Myanmar Awards Education Bursaries for Driver-Partners’ Children with Outstanding Academic Results
Grab, Southeast Asia’s leading online-to-offline (O2O) mobile platform, held a Grab Bursaries awards ceremony to recognise driver-partners’ children who have achieved outstanding academic results for their recent matriculation exams in 2017/2018. Grab awarded cash bursaries ranging from MMK 50,000 to MMK 100,000 to each awardee based on the number of distinctions achieved.
Yangon, Myanmar, 17 August 2018 – Grab, Southeast Asia’s leading online-to-offline (O2O) mobile platform, held a Grab Bursaries awards ceremony to recognise driver-partners’ children who have achieved outstanding academic results for their recent matriculation exams in 2017/2018. Grab awarded cash bursaries ranging from MMK 50,000 to MMK 100,000 to each awardee based on the number of distinctions achieved.
Grab Bursaries is part of Grab’s Better 365 scheme launched in June 2018. As part of Better 365, in which Grab driver-partners can enjoy a series of exclusive benefits, Grab invited its driver-partners to apply for cash bursaries for their children who achieved three distinctions or more for their matriculation exam in 2017-2018. A total of 27 children qualified for Grab Bursaries and were awarded at the ceremony in the presence of their families. They included one student with six distinctions, seven students with five distinctions and 19 students with three and four distinctions.
“We are very proud of our driver-partners’ children and would like to congratulate them for their outstanding results. We know that our driver-partners work hard to provide for their families and we want to play our part in supporting them and their loved ones through better welfare benefits. With Better 365, we are improving our driver-partners’ well-being, and supporting their children’s education. We will continue running Grab Bursaries under Better 365 again next year, and would like to encourage more children to study hard for their next term”, said Alvin Loh, the acting country manager of Grab Myanmar.
At the award ceremony, Grab screened a video about the company, its mission, vision and progress in SEA enabled by the hard work and dedication of driver-partners. Commenting on this, Loh added,“We want to help driver-partners’ children understand the positive contributions their parents are making every day on the Grab’s platform. By providing safe, affordable and accessible transportation to the Myanmar people, we are creating a better tomorrow for future generations.
“I am so happy to be recognised at the Grab Bursary event. I am proud of my dad for making transport safer for so many people in Yangon. Since my dad joined Grab in September, I’ve been getting more pocket money from him, and I get to spend them at my favourite eateries like Lotteria and KFC. I hope that Grab can continue to support my dad in the future,” said Mg Kaung Khine Soe, an award winner with six distinctions at the event.
Mg Kaung Khine Soe’s father, U Nyan Win, who began driving with Grab last August said that Grab has played an important role in helping him support his family. U Nyan Win said:“I’ve made more income since working with Grab and I’ve been able to support my son’s education without any worries. I have also paid off all my debts that I’ve accumulated over the years. It feels great that Grab values and cares for driver-partners and their children.”
Better 365 allows Grab’s driver-partners to enjoy a series of benefits, 365 days a year, according to three categories: a Platinum Driver Programme for top driver-partners, an in-app GrabBenefits programme for all driver-partners, and a Weekly Incentives programme for good performance.
In addition to Better 365, Grab will continue working with the driver community in Yangon to improve their lives with increased passenger bookings and income as well as to offer training sessions so they can improve service standards. Current and new benefits to be launched soon include:

Compensation for drivers in the event of an unfortunate accident, according to Grab’s regional insurance coverage policy
In-app credit wallet top ups that allow driver-partners to top up their credit wallet without physically coming down to Grab’s branch office

Micro-financing programmes for new Samsung devices
Vehicle leasing and financing of vehicle purchase through our partnership with Yoma Strategic Holdings
A new in-app Cancellation button that will not affect drivers’ cancellation rates if passengers do not show up after a five-minute wait time
