Phnom Penh, Cambodia, <\/b>23<\/b> November 2021 \u2013 <\/b>Grab, Southeast Asia\u2019s leading superapp, is highlighting the company\u2019s confidence in Cambodia\u2019s economic rebound by investing in new facilities to expand and grow the business in the wake of Covid 19.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Grab, the company has pushed ahead with its expansion plans thanks to the Royal Government of Cambodia\u2019s effective handling of the country\u2019s response to Covid 19. Grab also cites the execution of the government\u2019s successful vaccination campaign–resulting in the vaccination of nearly 88%<\/a> of the country\u2019s population to date<\/span>— as well as the recently announced reopening of the country to vaccinated travelers, as promising signs of a fast recovery.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Grab\u2019s expansion includes a new office in Tuol Kork, a rapidly developing district of Phnom Penh. This will more than double Grab\u2019s office space, enabling it to better serve its driver- and merchant-partners.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe whole world has taken somewhat of a \u2018forced break\u2019 during Covid 19\u201d, said Grab Cambodia Country Manager Corentin Rouxel. \u201cHowever, thanks to the effective leadership of the Cambodian government, the country looks set to rebound. We, at Grab, are very optimistic about Cambodia\u2019s future, which is why we are excited to continue with our expansion plans.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDuring Covid-19, Grab was particularly active in providing protection for consumers and driver-partners alike\u201d, added Rouxel. \u201cWe have distributed over a million face masks to driver-partners across the region, have supported governments\u2019 vaccination programs, and have promoted cashless payments to limit contact between consumers and driver-partners. We have also provided financial assistance, insurance and income protection for our driver-partners in case of quarantine or hospitalisation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNow, with Covid-19 having been successfully managed in Cambodia, it is time to move on to the next stage and help the country recover and reach new heights\u201d, continued Rouxel.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Present in Cambodia since 2017, Grab has become a key player in the ride hailing market, and embarked on numerous projects with the Royal Government of Cambodia, international development agencies and the private sector to help improve road safety and traffic management and support sustainable urban mobility\u00a0projects.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some of the projects Grab has embarked upon in Cambodia include a partnership with Ministry of Public Works and Transport to raise transport safety standards for the industry and to assist the ministry\u2019s ongoing efforts to promote safe driving and road use across the Kingdom; working with the government\u2019s Anti-Corruption Unit to adhere to stringent business ethic and to support the long term development of Cambodia; working with Impact Hub to grow and foster Cambodia\u2019s startup ecosystem by becoming engaged in local dialogues on building Cities of the Future and an Urban Mobility Incubator; and working with the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP) to enhance safe and clean transport for all by initiating a 3-year Sustainable Urban Mobility for All Initiative (SUMAI) aimed at improving availability and quality of transport data in Phnom Penh to better inform policies and decisions in support of sustainable and smart urban transport solutions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other such past initiatives have included the unveiling of <\/span>Grab for Business<\/span><\/a>, enabling companies and organisations to easily and efficiently facilitate and pay for transport options for their staff; sponsorship of safety helmets and reflection stickers to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport; and a donation campaign for Kantha Bopha children\u2019s hospital.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
