Hi all,

There are so many ridiculous chain letters floating around the inboxes these days that I thought I'd start a thread to "debunk" the worst of them. 

Once again, please do NOT forward chain letters.  Your friends don't like them - they probably won't BE your friends much longer if you don't stop spamming their inbox with Junk!

Chain Letters 101
How can you tell if something is a chain, you ask?

- If it tells you something bad will happen to you if you don't forward this mail to a number of your friends - it's definitely a chain.

- If it tells you something good will happen if you do or don't forward this message to a number of your friends - it's absolutely a chain.

- If it claims to be any kind of "official" notice from Grab, Yahoo, Google, etc. about hackers, viruses, or anything a reasonably intelligent person might find it odd that they'd be contacting you about via your Grabmail account - it is the worst kind of chain - a HOAX chain.

- If it tells you that you'll find or lose love or get kissed or the phone will ring, etc., etc., etc. - it's a chain!


Please do not contribute to the circulation of these obnoxious and misleading chain letters.  This thread will exist solely for the purpose of debunking some of the worst offenders in our war against chain letters.  If you receive a Grabmail that you think sounds fishy - check here before forwarding it to 20 of your friends, please.

Grab.com is not going to start charging all members in January.  This chain letter petition that is being circulated is a hoax.  Please do not forward it if you receive a copy in your Grabmail!

I forgot the most important clue to recognizing a chain letter.  If they start out by saying, "this isn't a chain" - it almost always is.

Admirable cause, but you're not going to get Pierre to stop smoking by forwarding this chain with 100 Grab usernames attached to him - I feel quite certain of that fact. 

PLEASE - do not forward this chain letter via Grabmail.

While it would be cool to find people who have birthdays on different days so that somebody has a birthday on each day, chain mail isn't the way to do it.

Petitions and chain mail like this DO NOT WORK.

Online petitions do not work because:

Say I got a petition from User1. I sign it, and send it to User2 and User3. User2 sends it to User4 and User3 sends it to User5... and now User2's copy doesn't have User3's or User5's name on it, and you end up with 4 different copies of the same petition.

Don't believe any grab mails saying that grab is shutting down.

Grab will never be sending out grab mails or e-mails saying it is shutting down and then only send it to a select few people.

If grab would ever be shutting down, it would be written on the homepage.
