For those that attended the 40's chat last Friday and were interested in how breathing can really benefit your day your energy and your stress levels, I decided to look up a couple of short videos on youtube. At Delitefuls urging lol!
I selected these two out of many, many videos because they are short, to the point and give quite clear instructions on how to begin to introduce yoga into your life.
Know firstly that yoga is for any gender age or fitness level. If a pose is too extreme for you, simply modify it and begin at the level that suits you (ie bending the knees or walking up to a standing position rather than jumping.) As you progress each day you will find yourself extending a little more and eventually doing the poses with ease.
This first video I like because it clearly shows you the position of the body, and shows the hand positions and where you should stretch and lift and breathe.

This next one I liked the introduction very much. It explains pretty much what we were chatting about on Friday, and also shows a slight variation on The Sun Salutation (Or Salute to the Sun).

Each type of yoga has differences, even some of the same poses have different names. But it's all beneficial, it's both relaxing and energising and is great for both stress management and general well being. Every class I ever attended began with the Salute to the Sun.
Remember to work to your own pace, and ask your Doctor if you have any concerns before you begin.
(Oh, and before anyone asks, yes every beginner groans and moans when they first experience The Downward facing dog pose. If you aren't grumbling you're doing it wrong lol!)
I hope you enjoy.

Maaate...!!
Thanks for the links.
I have been doing the breathing excersises morning and evening, too early to say what difference its making, but i will get together with you for a chat at the weekend to let you know how the week has gone.
Although....!! this morning when i was doing them, my daughter walks in on me and says 'what are you doing mummy'?
'breathing' I tell her
'why' she asked
'because its good for you' i tell her.
She looked at me for a bit longer till i'd finished, then said 'of course its good for you, you would go a funny colour if you didn't breath'
LOL

Got to love a kids perspective on things! LOL!
Actually that reminds me, when my eldest was a toddler before I had my second child, we would do yoga together in the lounge room. There is nothing to make you forget where your breath is quite like an 18 month old upside down grinning at you between his legs and laughing his guts out at you!
Gawd he was cute!

Two longer videos for those that have the interest and the time.

I must admit to having never done the twisted Cobra pose, that's a new one on me. But these videos do really show you more on body positions breathing and such.
This is the full Sun Salutation (with a twist!) Most classes show you the shorter version to begin with. Remember also to alternate the leg that goes back with each salutation. First left then right.
And Breathe!
