In the first round there are 10 different boards.  then the last 7 boards repeat. After you get to level 11, this is what to buy -
11 - strength and luck (no diamonds ever)
12 - diamond polish (if under $500) and strength.  If no strength, buy luck (Always 2 $500 gold and 3 0r 4 diamonds)
13 - diamond polish (Always 4 diamonds and 1 $500 gold)
14 - ONLY strength and luck (no diamonds -3 $500 and 2 $250 gold)
15 - diamond polish and cheap strength (one board has 4 diamonds and lots of rocks - blow up the rocks with the barrels - the others have LOTS of diamonds)
16 - diamond polish and cheap strength (1 board has lots of running ground hogs w/ diamonds an 2 boards have 2 $500 gold and lots of diamonds.
17 - test your luck, One board only has big gold (you'll need strength) the other two possible boards have lots of diamonds (diamond polish)

Then those boards repeat.  it will help if you don't have to buy unnecessary stuff.  If you can't buy strength, go for luck if it isn't too expensive.
You can only have 5 dynamite sticks, so buy when they are cheap - you don't need them much if you have strength. 
NEVER buy the rock book.  Give this a try and if you want more, let me know.
