Ok... Obviously by the title of this post, I intend for this topic to include only serious tips & tricks... so please, add on to my starting tip and help everyone get to those really high scores!
My tip is to upgrade 2 lengths and all of your strengths in any order then finish your lengths.
It's harder to do if you do 1 strength, 1 length, 1 strength, 1 length, all strengths, all lengths, but if I do it that way I seem to get farther level wise.
It's easier to do it when you do 1 length, 1 strength, 1 length, all strengths, all lengths, but be careful not to get too greedy on level 4 because it's easy to miss those fast little purple suckers...
On some levels, when you're asked for 5 - 7 fish combos, go for the faster fish like the red striped one.
Ok everyone, good luck!!!

Naaa, I disagree. Here is my idea: After level one spend your ten fish on length, after level two spend 15 fish on stronger line. Here's why: On level three the squid start coming out and so you have more fish you can catch. Then after level three spend 20 fish on stronger line because on level four a lot of stripers come out and, once again, you'll be able to catch them. After that, go for one more longer line, then catch your 55 fish to get up to max line strength. Then get the rest of your lengths.
Good luck.
And remember:
A lousy day catching virtual fish ( ) is better than a great day doing actual work ( ) !!!

A lousy day catching virtual fish ( ) is better than a great day doing actual work ( ) !!! Yep - I am going to try One length, and focus on Strength after that and see what happens! Waaaaaaaaa Hoooooooooo --- OOPS gotta zoom back to work! heh heh

I agree with the idea of spending 10 on length then upgrading strength, that way you can catch the squids and so forth, or that is what works best for me.

Here are some tips I posted from 2004...
This is my favorite game of all times!! Some of the things that I find helpful are on the levels that there is a shark and you have to catch 5 or more don't go after the shark, there won't be enough time, go after a fish that is faster the blue fish and the purple fish are the ones I go after when I have to catch 6 and 7 fish on the shark levels, even though there are fish with alot more points there may not be enough of them in the time that you need to catch them. I always try to get enough fish during one level to get an upgrade each time, start with your line level and rotate back and forth each level between line length and fish upgrade. I know you always hear practice makes perfect but on this game the more you play the more apt you are to remember the screens and know what you can catch and what you have time for. Once you get to where you can catch the sharks start working on your points, I catch the amount of fish I am required to right off and the bonus time points are what racks up your score. It takes a long time to get to a really high score, It took me over 11 hours to get 1,879,610 on game rival. If you have cable internet connection you can play the same game for days!!!! I hope this made some kind of sense to you and was helpful.

this game is very compicated but i learned a few tips that help you get high scores.
upgrade you lines like this:
length - level 1
strength - Level 2
strength - level 3/4
length - level 4/5
strength - level 5/6
strength - level 6/7
length - level 7/8
length - level 8/9
then you have all upgrades and only have to catch your goal!!
if your goal is
2- catch as many as possible. the last 10-15 seconds catch you 2 fish of the same kind.
3- catch as many as possible. the last 15-20 seconds catch your three of a kind
4- catch as many as possible in first 30 seconds then in last 30 seconds catch your 4 f a kind
5-same as above leave 40-35 seconds to catch 5 unless.....there are a bunch of sharks and you have not made that upgrade yet!
6- same as above leave 50-45 seconds for 6 of a kind.
7- catch only your 7 of a kind, unless it is the level with a bunch of small siver fish, then catch as many as possible, catch last 70 in 30 seconds.
these times can some down as you get better. start here though and see what works best for you.
*****TIP****** the more you catch of the same type of fish the more points they are worth!
sharks are worth 1500 points! catch as many as possible of these!
*********TIP****** treasure chests are worth nothing! youy only want the coins from inside of them! when they open throw your line in for extra points!
************TIP****** if you cannot reach your upgrade amount on a certain level. do not panic simply go on to the next and never forfit the chance of the next level to reach an impossible amount!

I've played this game quite a lot and after reading the tips and tricks here I improved, but I don't quite think i'm fast enough for some of those to work with me lol. But I seem to find that like others have said, if you upgrade one length then upgrade all of your strengths your score will go up hopefully! It's the sharks that make a big difference to your score, which is why it's so important you get all of the upgrades.
Good luck!

If I can't get catch a minimum of 15 fish on level 1, I start over. After level 1, I upgrade length. On level 2, if I don't get a total fish count of 29 so I can upgrade BOTH length & strength after level 2, I start over. This may seem like a lot of starting over on the first 2 levels, but when I get a "head start" this way, I end up going much further because it's a lot less frustrating to start over after just 2 levels than it is to not get enough fish around level 10 and HAVE to start over.

I use the same method, I do have to start over a lot but it's worth it because when you get to the first level with sharks you can get a lot of extra points1

NOT TRUE. Pick up the treasure chests when they're closed & they're worth 1,000 points each.
