How do you get points for the treasure chest? By grabbing it when it is open or closed?

when it is open although i didnt notice if i actually got any points but did catch some gold coins

you get points each time u get something out of the chest but you get like a 1000 points when u pick up the whole chest ...

In order to get the treasure chest,you have to upgrade your line strength (3) times and be able to bottom out your line length.
Then you can pick up the treasure chest when they are closed!
As far as being able to upgrade,well the best thing I can tell you is to be carefull and go after just what you need. After awhile you will notice that at certain levels certain fish are more common. the first half of your time can be spent on getting extra fish, but the last half should be going after the ones you need to complete the level.

wow, some of you guys have actually gotten the treasure chest!! that's so cool! I find that by the time I've got enought length to go down & get it, it's not there anymore! *LOL*

U can change the length of the line but u hav 2 get a certain amount of fish first which is a big challenge 4 me as i suck :'( x x x

Roni - yes, every so many fish, you can buy "length" and line "Strength" too, I just haven't figured out the best combo, and get all excited, then run out of fishies >>}}}*>

On a couple of the earlier levels, the treasure chest will keep coming back in the same spot after you catch them and pull them in, so there's an endless supply of treasure chests to catch. Just don't get too greedy and miss your fish requirement.

I don't know if it's just wishful thinking, but when I pick up a gold piece, it seems like my boat responds faster to my back and forth movements.
