When I start a level, I discard all the blocks until I get an couple of pieces with bonuses (pieces that have the single red block and the star bonus). It doesn't add to the puzzle completion time until after you've placed your first piece of the puzzle! You can do this at the beginning of all nine levels. Helps especially one the higher levels when you get those awkward pieces (cross and stairsteps, etc). If you're going to use them, you might as well get more pts. for them! I also try to complete as many rows as possible with pieces that have the star. It gives you 3X the pts. you'd normally get for completing a row. Sorry if this is all old news. . .I'm sure it is to you pros but maybe it will help a newbie!

Just to add to bigmochick's tip, which is very helpful to beginners, certain pieces do gather more points for you than others. On level one, the "S" shaped red and yellow blocks, when standing up (3 blocks) get you the most without a star. On levels 2-6 the green cross shaped pieces gather more points. Finally, levels 7-9 the green "C" shape are worth a lot if you complete three rows with them. Good luck to all!

tnxs for your tip! its realy helpful for them who want to play the game to get a lot of points. But i think it makes the game very boring, to sit there throwing away piece after piece waiting for one whit a star or a red square. They dont come to often. personaly i think the challenge is to play as good as possible, get to lvl 9, and then the score isnt important.
